orizzonti e paradigmi che cambiano

This chapter explores the relationship between the concepts of disability, identity, and accessibility, as well as the transformations these concepts—and their interrelations—have undergone in recent decades. The theoretical approach developed here draws on interdisciplinary references from sociological, psychological, and cultural studies, and, above all, from translation studies, with particular attention to accessibility to the media and the arts. Central to the discussion presented in this chapter are also references to conventions, laws, and other documents issued by major international bodies such as the United Nations, the European Union, and the World Health Organization. Complementing the critical framework developed through a series of diachronic reflections is a brief presentation of best practices in the integration of the competencies of people with and without disabilities, aimed at creating tools, texts, and strategies for genuinely proactive and inclusive accessibility.

environmental reading, Zanzotto, Venezia, Marghera

The article aims to discuss some interpretative consequences of the reading methodology recently referred to as ‘environmental reading’. After a brief reconstruction of how the reading of literary texts has shifted and has been proposed to adapt in light of climate change within the context of the Environmental Humanities, the essay focuses on the case of Andrea Zanzotto’s writings in poetry and prose on Venice and Marghera and shows how an ‘environmental’ reading risks simplifying their intrinsic ambiguity in favor of a message that sounds as univocal as possible. In contrast to these readings, Zanzotto’s texts on Venice and Marghera are read through the lens of other authors whose poetry was inspired by Zanzotto (i.e., Italo Testa and Francesco Targhetta), showing how the ambiguous nature of texts, rather than the univocal message one might detect, allows literature to effectively address the importance of the environment as a theme today.

il romanzo-romanzo di Georges Simenon

The article begins with a survey of the current reception of Simenon to illustrate the new perspectives opened by considering his work in a comparative and intermedial context. Its aim is to demonstrate that it was precisely in the space between genre literature and the media that Simenon found the opportunity to develop an original poetics of the novel, anticipating the crisis of literary meaning that, a few decades later, would characterize the period of the narrative turn, thus revealing himself to be fully contemporary.

Endowed with superpowers and capable of extraordinary exploits, formidable feats and decisive masterstrokes, the hyperbolic bodies of great martial champions are not only terrifying instruments of war and death, enhanced by shiny and thunderous iron weapons, but, in heroic narratives, they are also conceived as forums for the convergence and representation of ideological values and symbolic stakes that play a crucial role in the construction of meaning. With its exuberant and excessive proportions, the body of elite fighters becomes the physical correlatives of démesure and hybris epitomising the very essence of epic hyperbole. Framed against the backdrop of traditional archetypes, the current contribution focuses on different depictions of corporeality in Old French literature.

Pluralità del corpo, molteplicità dei significati: Il mostro a sette teste nell’Europa della prima età moderna

This essay traces the long and complex afterlife of the seven-headed monster first reported in Invorio in 1578 and later reappearing – transformed in form and function – across early modern Europe. Through an investigation of printed sources, from Italian prodigy pamphlets to German Wunderzeichen and English newsbooks, the monster emerges as a powerful ‘plural body’: a mutable symbol of divine punishment, political disorder, religious satire, and imperial critique. By examining the multilingual and transnational circulation of this monstrous image, the article explores how its plurality of limbs mirrors the plurality of meanings it generated – revealing the fractured imagination of early modern Europe.
