Disabilità, identità, accessibilità:
orizzonti e paradigmi che cambiano

This chapter explores the relationship between the concepts of disability, identity, and accessibility, as well as the transformations these concepts—and their interrelations—have undergone in recent decades. The theoretical approach developed here draws on interdisciplinary references from sociological, psychological, and cultural studies, and, above all, from translation studies, with particular attention to accessibility to the media and the arts. Central to the discussion presented in this chapter are also references to conventions, laws, and other documents issued by major international bodies such as the United Nations, the European Union, and the World Health Organization. Complementing the critical framework developed through a series of diachronic reflections is a brief presentation of best practices in the integration of the competencies of people with and without disabilities, aimed at creating tools, texts, and strategies for genuinely proactive and inclusive accessibility.
